During the 2014 Maidan movement for human dignity, Metropolitan Borys was an active supporter, travelling globally to give talks on theology, history, spirituality, society, and current challenges in Ukraine. He speaks English, Ukrainian, Italian, Polish, French, Russian, and German. He is the author of a number of scholarly works, among them his doctoral dissertation on sixteenth century church history, published as Crisis and Reform: The Kyivan Metropolitanate, the Patriarchate of Constantinople, and the Genesis of the Union of Brest.
In 2016, with the help of consultants experienced in church administration and business, Archbishop Borys launched a program of strategic pastoral planning to create a vision for the eparchy’s future growth, increase the number of priests and parishes, establish a new financial model for the eparchy’s sustainability, and widely engage the laity.
In 2019 Metropolitan Borys was named archbishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia and is a member of the Permanent Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. From his extensive experience living on different continents, alternating between eastern and western Europe, the academy, and pastoral life, Archbishop Gudziak is uniquely equipped to offer a pastoral perspective on the Eastern Catholic theological voice and its role in communicating the Gospel to the world today.
